Sharing a note from a fellow biker.

“Q-ball,

After a care full study of all the amazing photos contained in "living the life", I find the most important and compelling plate to be the one that sits across from "road to redemption". This photo absolutely captures the bikers philosophy of independence, self-reliance, and his or her defiance of convention. For me, this is a somber photo that reminds us that, no matter how many we may ride with, we all truly ride alone.

If I had to put this photo to music, it would be to David Gilmour's, 1978 instrumental "Raise my Rent".

For those of you who don’t know Adam, you can find him at most major swap meets up and down the East Coast scouting for old and greasy motorcycle pats. He is a high test evangelical motorcycle enthusiast with a brain like a bear trap when it comes to mechanical specs. Don’t believe me, just ask him some obscure question, then be prepared for a flood of fascinating factual information.

I just finished reading your book, and I think it's a great piece of work. For me, it was also a trip down memory lane.

I guess you and I are about the same age. I was born in Mt. Kisco, NY, on May 27,1950. I too started riding in 1965. I built and rode that knucklehead (one of the pictures I sent you) while I was in high school. I was kind of like an early version of the Fonz (that was when I had hair). And like you, I barely graduated high school.

Things have changed a lot, since then and now. Back in the day, no one cared what kind of bike you rode. What we cared about was what kind of a person you were, and if you could be relied upon, and the only bikes that got trailered anywhere, were our race bikes (I used to race sidehacks).

As some of you may know, I have shipped my book “living the life” to Japan, Italy, Baghdad, Hungary, Finland, Germany, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, & England.

Thursday January 26, 2012 was a bit unique, I sent my first book to The People’s Republic Of China. Who’d A Thunk? One small step towards a balance of trade.

I also received fan mail with a great photo from Germany. Thank you one and all for your support. Keep the letters and photos coming, and I will post them with your permission.

Just wanted to share a note from a fan of “living the life”

“Q-Ball,

I just received the copy of "living the life" that I ordered and I have to tell you that this is one of the best books I've ever seen. The photography is unbelievable and the words are not only deep and meaningful but the reader can sense they are penned from experience and in knowing. Great job by both you and Sorez. The pictures make a person feel like they can almost step in to them. I looked through the book a couple of times and then went back and took my time and really looked closely. It is unbelievable how the book reaches to the depths of a man and allows him to see in front of him examples the life he leads. I'm sure every biker who sees your book will relate to personal experiences in almost every picture and words in one way or another. It's like you've been able to put on paper the answer to the age old question asked by many people, and that is "What's it like to be a biker?" They need only see your book to know exactly what it's like.

I may not have all the luck in the world, but I have just enough. Like the cold, wet March day I did a 270 mile round trip to Harrisburg, PA. When I got home, and parked my bike in front of the garage, the Custom Chrome rear pulley retainer ring popped off. What a mix of luck. Can you imagine what a mess that might have made at highway speeds.

My guardian angel was looking out for me the other day. It was a beautiful fall day except for gusting wind. I was suppose to go on an ABATE poker run, but other obligations kept me closer to home. Part of this run would have taken me over the very high Solomons Island bridge with heavy cross winds, and only Jersey barriers for sides. Instead I road down to show support, road off to take care of other business, stopped by the house to take care of the dog before riding off to join the ABATE crew, and then to another event. Once again parked in front of my garage, I noticed something was not quite right about my bike. Mind you I always do an inspection of my ride before I take off. Somehow in the last 75 miles after leaving that morning my handlebars had become loose. When I went to tighten my handlebars I had an eye opening experience. They were not loose, they were ready to come off in my hands. The 2 inch Custom Chrome rises had developed stress fractures.

I may not have been able to ride that day, but I did not die that day either. It’s an easy fix, I will ride again soon. I will also check my bike even closer now, and I hope you will do the same.

Guess what? We’re doing it again! Circle the date on your calendar -- Saturday, October 1, 2011 and make a bee-line for Independence, Virginia. Our Customer Appreciation Celebration is a fall event this year in anticipation of some autumn color for our ride. Be warned, though... it will also mean some cooler weather, so be sure to wrap up in your Fox Creek gear.
October brings the faint touch of gold and red to our mountains, and our famous Blue Ridge Mountains simply glow. We have some nice twisties in this part of the country, and more than just a few country roads begging for a little 'thunder.' Don’t forget your 'weather gear' because this is a rain-or-shine event.

Living the Life

We're gonna have a blast! We'll provide southern hospitality and activities throughout the day. Q-ball's coming back - have him autograph his book for you. We have a couple bands playing a variety of music, some tunes in a bucket, some cool giveaways PLUS we're grilling burgers & dogs and serving non-alcoholic drinks. Feel lucky? Join in our 50/50 Raffle and win some quick cash, or just hang out for the door prizes.
There are local motels, cabins and Bed and Breakfast lodging in the area, or you can pitch a tent next to our pond. Feel free to BYOB, but please plan to bring a tent if you do. We'd much rather you crash in our back yard than on the ride home.

We do have a small request: please let us know if you are planning to be here so we have enough vittles for everyone. But a spur of the moment bike trek to Independence is cool, too. As some of you may know, I’m the Senior Photographer for Lowside Magazine. Lowside is into anything that burns gas and gets your hands greasy building it. We feature mostly two wheels, but some righteous four wheelers make the cut. Lowside has teamed up with Dime City Cycles to produce some Cafe Racers that will be auctioned off for charity. The process will be filmed for Cafe Racer TV. I went to Florida with the crew to document the whole nine yards, and party. Turns out they put me in front of the camera riding and being interviewed.
